The sun streaming down on the aptly named magnolia stellata brings just one word to mind – Starlight! The star magnolia is a deciduous small tree, with an eventual height and spread of approximately 2.5 x 4 metres. It’s not fussy about soil types, but prefers a well drained sheltered spot in sun or partial shade. The pure white star like flowers appear in early spring and although they don’t last long, this is a stunning tree when in full bloom.

It is very pretty. Your friend is lucky, the one in the photo is in Walsall Arboretum, our garden doesn’t have room for one!
