Plant Profile – Edgeworthia chrysantha

If you’re looking for a winter statement plant, then you’d certainly want to consider this unusual looking specimen, edgeworthia chrysantha. A deciduous shrub, it produces clusters of small yellow and white lightly fragrant flowers on its reddish brown stems from midwinter through to early spring. At a maximum height and spread of 1.5 x 1.5 metres, it is an excellent choice to add winter interest in gardens of any size and as can be seen from the image below, it’s very bee friendly!

Commonly known as the Paper Bush plant, this shrub is happy in loamy soil, moist but well drained and in a sunny or lightly shaded position. Prune lightly in late winter to early spring to keep the desired shape. For more plants – propagate using soft wood cuttings.
